WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester wasted little time in dispatching visiting Goldey-Beacom in straight games, 3-0 (30-12, 30-17, 30-12), in the opening tilt of the WCU Volleyball Tournament inside Hollinger Field House Friday afternoon.
The win ran the Golden Rams’ season-opening win streak to a school-record 10 straight contests, while the Lightning fell to 0-6 on the year. West Chester is off to the best start in school history and half way to 20 wins on the season – something the Golden Rams have only accomplished four times since becoming a varsity sport in 1977.
Senior libero Jacqueline Vivanco registered 16 digs in the match, vaulting her over 1,000 for her career. posted 10 digs as well.
Kristen Decker led the team with 17 kills while Michelle Powers chipped in 14 kills.
Lisa Yeasted recorded 44 assists for the Golden Rams. Nora Jingeleski added 12 digs.
West Chester takes on Nyack Friday night at 8 p.m. in the third match of day one of the two-day tournament. On Saturday, the Golden Rams face Goldey-Beacom at 10 a.m. and Nyack at 2 p.m. In between those two games, at 12 p.m., Goldey-Beacom will face Nyack.
